1. Program Description

The Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM) is a four-year professional undergraduate degree designed to prepare competent, skilled, and compassionate midwives to provide evidence-based care to women, newborns, and families throughout the maternity cycle. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) describes BS Midwifery as a distinct professional degree that prepares graduates for quality care of pregnant women and newborns, based on national and international best practices and International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) standards. The program develops theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, professional competencies, communication skills, leadership, health education, and evidence-based practice in the field of midwifery.Graduates are prepared to provide person-centred maternity care, promote normal physiological childbirth, identify complications, provide appropriate initial management within their scope, and refer women and newborns when specialist intervention is required. WHO emphasizes that appropriately educated and regulated midwives are central to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.
