Program Description
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a 2-year diploma program designed to prepare students to provide safe, basic, and supportive nursing care to patients under the supervision of qualified nursing professionals. The program combines classroom learning, nursing skills laboratory training, and clinical practice. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Two-Year Diploma Program
The Curriculum of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Two-Year Diploma Program is designed to develop the foundational knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to provide safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care under the supervision of qualified nursing professionals. The program integrates classroom-based learning with structured hospital clinical practice in both years, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real healthcare settings.
First Year – Foundation of Nursing Care
The first year introduces students to the foundational subjects of nursing and healthcare, focusing on basic nursing knowledge, human anatomy, communication, and professional ethics.
The following subjects are taught during the first year:
1. Fundamentals of Nursing (FON)
Introduces students to the fundamental principles and practices of nursing, including basic patient care, personal hygiene, vital signs, infection prevention and control, patient safety, communication, documentation, and essential nursing procedures.
2. Anatomy & Physiology
Provides an understanding of the structure and functions of the human body, covering major body systems and their relevance to health, illness, and patient care.
3. English-I
Develops foundational English language, reading, writing, comprehension, and communication skills required for effective interaction in healthcare environments.
4. Islamiat / Ethics
Develops professional, ethical, and moral values relevant to healthcare practice, with emphasis on dignity, respect, compassion, confidentiality, responsibility, and ethical patient care.
5. Hospital Clinical Practice – I
Hospital-based clinical practice is an integral component of the two-year CNA curriculum. Students receive supervised practical training throughout the program, progressing from fundamental patient-care skills in the first year to broader clinical competencies in the second year. This practical exposure helps students develop confidence, professionalism, communication skills, and the ability to provide safe and compassionate patient care within their scope of practice.
Final Year – Applied Nursing Care
The second year builds upon the knowledge gained in the first year and focuses on applied nursing care, medical-surgical nursing, community health, pediatric care, nutrition, and pharmacology.
The following subjects are taught during the second year:
1. Medical-Surgical Nursing & Pharmacology
Introduces common medical and surgical conditions, basic patient management, observation and reporting, medication safety, and fundamental pharmacological concepts relevant to the role of a Certified Nursing Assistant.
2. Community Health Nursing & Nutrition
Focuses on community health principles, health promotion, disease prevention, personal and environmental hygiene, health education, and the basic principles of nutrition and dietary care.
3. Pediatric Nursing
Introduces students to the care of infants, children, and adolescents, including growth and development, hygiene, nutrition, safety, common childhood illnesses, and supportive pediatric care.
4. English-II
Builds upon English-I by strengthening professional communication, healthcare terminology, reading comprehension, written communication, and interpersonal communication skills required in clinical practice.
5. Hospital Clinical Practice – II
Hospital-based clinical practice is an integral component of the two-year CNA curriculum. Students receive supervised practical training throughout the program, progressing from fundamental patient-care skills in the first year to broader clinical competencies in the second year.
